Fill in the information about your boat in the form under the Scrapping request tab. Under Additional information, you can add if your boat is on land or in water, if it is available with a crane truck for lifting, and if the mast is dismantled or not. Describe under Environmentally hazardous waste the type of waste and how much there is.
Remember that the form is only an inquiry and not an order.
We have 30 facilities around the country. To find the one closest to you, write down the address of where your boat is located.
Båtretur is a collaboration between Båtskroten, SweBoat, and Stena Recycling AB. Through this collaboration, we can recycle boats all over Sweden. Once we have received your request, we will get back to you with information on how to proceed.
If you need help finding information about your boat, check out www.sailguide.se or www.sokbat.se. You can also add your questions to the form and we will try to help you.
Scrapping contribution
Fill in our form under the Scrapping Enquiry tab to apply for a Scrapping contribution. Thanks to The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and their subsidies, we have been able to recycle many boats over the years. Due to our success, The Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management Agency can now allocate further funds to our joint mission. Therefore, from 1st January 2023, we offer free scrapping of boats up to 10 tons. In addition, private individuals and local authorities can recycle boats at any of our facilities through the Scrapping contribution.
The Scrapping contribution encourages boat owners to care for their worn-out boats instead of disposing of them in nature. If you need help getting your boat to one of our facilities, we will help you with the transportation for a fee. Please remember that the boat must be decontaminated from environmentally hazardous waste before recycling.
Crane Truck
Here are a few things to consider before booking a boat pick-up with a crane truck. First, is the boat easily accessible? Second, can a crane truck get to the boat? Third, is the boat on land or water? An additional escort vehicle is needed if the boat is wider than 3.10 m.
Boat Trailer
If you have a small boat that is hard to access with a crane truck, we can assist you with a boat trailer instead.
Towing
If your boat is out on an island without road connections, we can help you take it to the nearest dock where we lift it with a crane truck.
Ferry
Do you have other waste that you need help transporting in the Stockholm Archipelago? For example, timber that is going to an island?

In the spring of 2007, we were stuck with a sailboat that needed to be scrapped. As we researched how to dispose of it responsibly, we realized that there needed to be a system in place to care for worn out boats. But unfortunately there was none in Sweden. So we were stuck with a problem we needed to solve, but how?
Båtskroten was born the same year on Muskö in the Stockholm archipelago.
In the beginning there was a lot to learn and figure out; there were many rules, techniques and processes. Creating good partnerships to manage the entire recycling process was essential. Soon enough, we had tried scrapping a few boats and were able to start formulating a process that we could quality-assure, make it safe for people and gentle on the environment. Today we can take boats from all over the country – from small boats to burnt ships, wooden boats and fiberglass boats.
Throughout this journey we have received massive support from the recycling industry, attention from the media (TV and press) and even a couple of awards, one for successful business from the Minister of Industry.
We have also had the honor of being in an advertisement for Volvo.
Together with SweBoat and Stena Recycling, we have built a national recycling system for leisure boats in Sweden.
We currently operate 30 facilities.
Regardless of where you live in the country, it is important for us to be able to help you scrap your boat with the utmost care for our sensitive environment.
After 100 years of recreational boating culture, there is a growing need for a recycling system to deal with the increasing number of boats that have reached the end of their lives. Boating has been a popular activity since the 1920s, and hopefully will continue to do so. Sweden has approximately 880,000 boats and almost 2 million people use them. These figures make Sweden one of the most boat-dense countries in the world.
Only recently the life of the boats and the relatively high resale value meant that there was no need for a recycling system. But as the needs and expectations of boat owners have started to change and the resale value of the boats decreases, we see a need to recycle end-of-life boats.
Our system fills a function that was needed but not filled and whose absence led to unnecessary marine litter and frivolous handling of retired boats.
We believe that the entire process, from pick-up to recycling, must be environmentally responsible.
We collaborate with boat companies, environmental and local authorities, and insurance companies to guarantee that the recycling process is carried out correctly, meets quality controls, and is done with the utmost consideration for our sensitive environment.
The environment is something we consciously and continuously work on at Båtskroten. Our focus is on making the entire chain as environmentally responsible as possible, from salvaging to transportation and recycling of materials. Therefore, it’s important for us that our partners share our vision.
We are also engaged in various forums on boats and environmental issues.
